New Nissan Leaf Set to Reshape Brand’s Electric Future with Crossover Design and Enhanced Range

New details have emerged about the third-generation Nissan Leaf, which is poised to redefine the brand’s electric vehicle strategy. With a crossover design, a target range of up to 500 km, and improved aerodynamics, the new Leaf aims to bolster Nissan’s position in the increasingly competitive electric vehicle market.
Nissan, which has lagged behind rivals in EV competition, intends to increase its claim with the next-generation Leaf. The completely redesigned model has revealed its initial design details and development process ahead of its full unveiling at the end of June.
Design Evolution and Aerodynamic Efficiency

First showcased in March 2025, the third-generation Leaf abandons its previous hatchback form for a more contemporary crossover silhouette. Notable design elements include a fastback-style rear, new LED headlights, 19-inch alloy wheels, and active grille shutters at the front.
The vehicle’s drag coefficient (Cd) is announced as 0.25 in Europe, making it Nissan’s most aerodynamic production model to date. The new Leaf is equipped with advanced technologies like an electrochromic panoramic glass roof. This innovative glass eliminates the need for sunshades, enhancing interior comfort with its reflective coating that blocks harmful rays.
Platform, Powertrain, and Range

Underneath, the new Leaf utilizes the CMF-EV platform, shared with the Nissan Ariya. This platform allows for a flat floor and a spacious cabin, while retaining the practicality users expect. The new Leaf will be offered exclusively as a single-motor model, meaning there will be no all-wheel-drive option.
Regarding range, figures will vary by version, falling between 300 and 500 kilometers. With fast charging, it will be possible to gain up to 200 kilometers of range in just 40 minutes.
Since its inception in 2010, the Leaf has sold approximately 700,000 units, pioneering the electric vehicle revolution. Now, it’s opening an entirely new chapter to shape Nissan’s future. Full details of the model are expected to be revealed at its launch on June 18th.
