Music Awards Introduce Best Metaverse Performance Category
World-famous rappers Snoop Dogg and Eminem recently made headlines with their collaboration with Yuga Labs, the creators of Bored Ape Yacht Club. They left a significant impact at the MTV Music Awards with their performance in the metaverse.
The concert held in the “Yuga Labs metaverse” garnered considerable attention. For the first time, the award ceremony introduced a “best metaverse performance” category.
Throughout the year, the duo has frequently collaborated with Yuga Labs. In a notable instance, they portrayed Bored Ape monkeys in a music video for one of their songs. Continuing this theme, they transformed into BAYC monkeys during their show at the awards ceremony, performing in this unique form.
Metaverse category featured for the first time
In addition to the performance by Snoop Dogg and Eminem, the MTV Music Awards featured a groundbreaking category this year: “Best Metaverse Performance.”
This marked the first time such a category was included in the award ceremony. The South Korean group Blackpink emerged as the winner of this award, standing out for surpassing major artists like Justin Bieber and Charli XCX.
They raised $320 million
As is well-known, like other metaverse platforms such as Decentraland and Sandbox, Yuga Labs’ Otherside game also offers land for sale.
However, the game is not fully developed yet, and the company has released only limited information about it. Notably, Yuga Labs first announced the sale of land parcels, referred to as “Otherdeeds,” during the Otherside’s promotional campaign.
This initiative garnered a total investment of 317 million dollars. The overwhelming interest in the sale led to significant congestion on the Ethereum blockchain, causing transaction fees to soar to record highs.
