Meta Acquires Startup Company for Metaverse Unit

Meta has announced its acquisition of the Cambridge-based startup, Audio Analytic, to enhance its Reality Labs unit, which is dedicated to metaverse development. The financial specifics of this acquisition have not been disclosed.

Social media giant Meta will integrate Audio Analytic into its Reality Labs team, focusing on the advancement of the metaverse.

Audio Analytic specializes in training artificial intelligence to recognize everyday sounds, such as the shattering of glass or a dog’s bark. The expertise of the Audio Analytic team is anticipated to significantly contribute to Meta’s research on accurately replicating real-world sounds within the metaverse.

This integration aims to expand, develop, and bring Meta’s metaverse platforms closer to a realistic experience.

Meanwhile, Meta, in a recent financial report, announced a 13 percent reduction in its workforce following reported losses from its investments in the metaverse. This reduction translates to about 11,000 employees.
