McDonald’s Enters Metaverse: Order & Delivery News

The world’s largest fast-food chain, McDonald’s, has announced its entry into the Metaverse universe. Going forward, individuals spending time in the Metaverse can visit McDonald’s, place orders, and have their food delivered to their virtual doorstep.

This move marks a significant convergence of the digital and physical worlds. McDonald’s, with over 39,000 branches in nearly 100 countries, has taken steps to serve its food online.

The company filed applications for the McDonald’s brand and McCafe with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office earlier in the month.

The new service from McDonald’s is described as “running an online virtual restaurant with home delivery service.” According to trademark attorney Josh Gerban, users in the Metaverse can order food without leaving the virtual environment, and their orders will be delivered to their real-world doorstep.

The approval process for these applications by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is expected to take about 8 months.

This move by McDonald’s is in line with a broader trend, as many brands are exploring opportunities in the Metaverse. Josh Gerben predicts that in the next 12 months, numerous brands will file applications related to the Metaverse.

The Metaverse, which refers to virtual spaces accessible over the internet through virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) devices, has become a focal point for technology giants.

Microsoft, for instance, has shown interest in the Metaverse, and other companies like Nike have also entered the space with the establishment of a Metaverse Studio.

The intersection of virtual and physical experiences, as demonstrated by McDonald’s entry into the Metaverse, showcases the evolving landscape where traditional businesses are adapting to emerging technologies and digital trends.
