Introducing Figure 02: Next-Gen Humanoid Robot at BMW

Artificial intelligence robot company Figure has unveiled its second-generation humanoid robot, the Figure 02. The company also revealed that this advanced humanoid robot is currently operating at BMW’s factory.

Figure AI has introduced its second-generation humanoid robot, the Figure 02, in full detail. Although the company had announced the robot a few days ago, specific details were not initially shared. In the company’s latest statement, it was emphasized that the Figure 02, described as the “highest performance humanoid robot,” is also working in BMW’s factory.

Introducing Figure 02

Figure’s robot combines the dexterity of the human form with advanced artificial intelligence to perform a wide range of tasks in commercial applications and, in the near future, in homes. As previously reported, a partnership was established between Figure AI and OpenAI. Even the earlier version, Figure 01, created under this partnership, could converse like a human.

The Figure 02 addresses the deficiencies of the previous version with significant revisions. Featuring a complete redesign of its hardware and software, Figure 02 has advanced in critical technologies such as artificial intelligence, computer vision, batteries, electronics, sensors, and actuators.

The most significantly developed component of the robot is its hands. These new human-scale hands are supported by 16 degrees of freedom and human-equivalent grasping power, enabling a wide range of human-like tasks. To manage all software and hardware, Figure 02 uses a built-in CPU and GPU with three times more computational power and AI inference capability than the previous generation. This enhanced hardware allows the robot to perform real-world AI tasks completely autonomously.

The Figure 02 recently tested these new capabilities at BMW Manufacturing, where it conducted AI data collection and use case training. The company’s robots continue to be tested at BMW’s factories.
