A significant development has taken place regarding the Bitcoin network, which was introduced in 2009. The one billionth transaction on the network has officially been completed. This transaction, which occurred at block 842,241, marks a significant milestone for Bitcoin.

An average of 178,475 transactions were carried out daily on the Bitcoin network

However, it’s important to note that there have been days with significantly higher and lower transaction volumes. Additionally, the data presented here does not include transactions from the Lightning Network, which is a layer 2 payment protocol built on top of the Bitcoin network.

Although Bitcoin is the oldest cryptocurrency in history, it is not the first to surpass the one billion transaction milestone.

Ethereum (ETH), for example, is a notable case. Launched in July 2015, the Ethereum network has processed more than 2 billion transactions to date.
