Google Announces AI-Powered Smart Speaker

Google has unveiled its smart speaker, which is reminiscent of the HomePod mini in design. The Google Home Speaker features a flattened sphere design, a new light ring, and many AI-powered features.

Google had announced a new Nest speaker that runs Gemini instead of Google Assistant during the Pixel 10 series launch event in August. Today, with the rollout of Gemini for Home in certain countries, Google introduced the Google Home Speaker product. The smart speaker, which has a design similar to the HomePod mini, will be available for sale in the spring of 2026.

What features does the Google Home Speaker offer?

The new Google Home Speaker adopts the “Home” brand, dropping the “Nest” branding. This smart speaker is ideal for placing in the center of a room, unlike the Nest Audio which had directional sound with its 360° audio feature. A colorful RGB light ring is located on the bottom of the speaker, which adds flair to voice responses. Additionally, there is a physical microphone mute button that you can use if you don’t want the speaker listening to certain conversations.

The biggest feature of the Google Home Speaker is the Gemini capability, which allows for natural conversations with the digital assistant inside the speaker. You also get the Gemini Live feature for fluid, back-and-forth conversations. Google states that this speaker has a dedicated processor that handles Gemini’s advanced artificial intelligence, enabling faster and more fluent interactions.

What is the price of the Google Home Speaker?

Google’s new smart speaker, the Home Speaker, will be released in the spring of 2026 with a price tag of $100.

Google Home Premium Standard, which provides Gemini Live and home automation features, is priced at $10 per month or $100 per year. Google Home Premium Advanced, which offers daily summaries and a video history search option, is available for $20 per month or $200 per year. While Google Home Speaker users will be able to ask Gemini questions for free as the Gemini for Home feature is included, a Google Home Premium subscription will be required for features such as Gemini Live (voice chat feature), AI automations, sound sensing, AI-powered notifications, Home Brief, video history search, and daily briefings.
