Europe’s EV Market Surpasses One Million Sales

For the first time ever, electric vehicle (EV) sales in Europe have topped one million units in the first half of the year. According to data from automotive provider JATO Dynamics, sales reached 1,193,397—a significant 25% increase compared to the same period the previous year.

EVs now account for 17.4% of the total European car market, marking a 3.6 percentage point increase in market share from last year.
The report also highlights which countries are leading this growth. Between the first half of 2024 and 2025, Denmark saw the largest increase in market share for EVs, with a 19-point jump. It was followed by Norway (9.2 points), Belgium (8 points), Finland (7.2 points), and Austria (5.6 points).
While countries like Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Finland have the highest market share for electric vehicles, nations such as Croatia, Slovakia, Romania, Poland, and Italy have the lowest.
Top-Selling EV Brands

When it comes to brand performance, Volkswagen led the pack with 135,427 units sold, a huge 78% increase from last year. Tesla came in second with 109,262 sales, despite a 33% drop in volume. BMW secured the third spot with 94,658 units, representing a 15% increase.
The top ten was rounded out by:

- Skoda: 71,789
- Renault: 64,402
- Kia: 55,915
- Mercedes: 55,428
- Volvo: 49,219
- Hyundai: 46,380
Other notable brands in the top rankings included Peugeot, BYD, Ford, and Opel.
