Epic Games and Lego Partner to Build a Metaverse Platform

Epic Games, a leading company in the gaming industry, and Lego, renowned for its iconic toys, video games, and movies, have announced a metaverse partnership. These two industry giants are joining forces to create a virtual space specifically designed for children.

The concept of the metaverse, in which numerous major companies are investing, is gaining increasing popularity. Described as the technology of the future, the metaverse envisions a world where people can spend their daily lives in virtual universes.

Despite some reservations about the technology, metaverse-related news continues to emerge regularly. Now, a notable development comes from Lego, a Denmark-based toy company, and Epic Games, a US gaming giant. The entertainment industry heavyweights have revealed their collaboration to establish a metaverse platform catering to children.

As reported by The Verge, Lego, which has recently focused more on video games with the release of Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, has chosen to partner with Epic Games, the company behind Fortnite, to create a virtual universe for children.

Tim Sweeney, the CEO of Epic Games, expressed his excitement about the collaboration, stating, “We are excited to come together to create a fun space designed for children and families on the metaverse.”

While details about the partnership are currently limited, a joint statement from both companies emphasizes that the created space will be family-friendly. The statement reads, “The Lego Group and Epic Games are combining their experiences to make sure the next version of the internet is designed with the well-being of children in mind.”

Although specifics about the appearance, release date, or supported platforms of this new virtual world are not available yet, both companies stress that children’s safety and privacy will be protected. Parents will also have control over their children’s digital experiences.

It is worth noting that there are concerns about the potential effects of the metaverse on children. A recent study revealed that children entering the metaverse might easily access sexually explicit virtual places. Experts have emphasized the need for tightened controls to avoid potential dangers in such virtual environments.
