Enhance Your Experience with New AI Features on Google Maps and Search
Google recently announced it will integrate new generative AI features into its Maps and Search services, which promise to significantly enhance the user experience in their daily routines. These innovations, propelled by advancements in artificial intelligence, are set to introduce crucial functionalities to both Maps and Search, although they are initially rolling out in select locations rather than being made available globally.
The updates are all centered around generative AI technology. For instance, Maps is gaining a new feature designed to aid users who are undecided about their plans, offering valuable suggestions and guidance. Meanwhile, Search will be enhanced with capabilities particularly beneficial for planning travel. Additionally, Google’s announcement comes alongside recent updates from Samsung, including the “Circle for Call” feature that debuted with the Galaxy S24, highlighting the tech industry’s ongoing commitment to incorporating AI into their offerings.
Google Maps will offer suggestions for places to eat and places to visit
The initial feature enhancement comes to Google Maps, where the app will now offer users recommendations on dining options and places to visit. Furthermore, a weekly-updated feature called “Trends” will be introduced, highlighting the week’s most popular spots and uncovering “hidden gems” for exploration. Currently, these new Maps functionalities are accessible in 40 cities across the U.S. and Canada, with no details provided yet on their expansion to other regions.
Google Search will create a travel plan for you with artificial intelligence
Google is actively working to incorporate artificial intelligence into its search capabilities, introducing the Generative Search Experience (SGE) which is currently undergoing a trial phase. This newly added feature, presently accessible only to those registered with SGE, offers users a comprehensive travel plan.
This includes a detailed itinerary of activities, flight and hotel options, dining recommendations, and sightseeing destinations. Company-shared visuals reveal that the generative AI can craft a plan for a 3-day trip, suggesting visits to historical sites in the morning and other attractions in the afternoon, showcasing the depth of personalized planning it can provide.
Translation is coming to the “Circle for Search” feature
Google introduced an artificial intelligence feature alongside Samsung’s Galaxy S24 launch, enabling searches for anything on the screen by simply circling it. This innovative feature has now been extended to include translations. Users can now translate any text visible on their screen into their preferred language, facilitated by a translation button added at the screen’s bottom.
It’s important to note that this circle search functionality is currently exclusive to the Galaxy S24, as well as the Pixel 7 and Pixel 8 devices, which are not yet available in Turkey. However, Google plans to expand this feature to more Android devices soon. The company has announced that the translation feature will be rolled out in the forthcoming weeks.
