Chinese Company Launches Its Robot Dog with a Price Tag of Just $1,000

Chinese robotics startup Dobot has launched its Rover X1 robot dog model with a price tag of $1,053. So, what are the features of this robot dog?

Chinese robotics startup Dobot has launched its Rover X1 robot dog model with a price tag of 7,499 yuan ($1,053). Marketed with the motto, “The world’s first smart home robot,” the robot is not just a four-legged toy that dances on command; it is designed as a fully-equipped assistant capable of patrolling the house, teaching children coding, following its owner, and even carrying groceries.

Rover X1 Features

The Rover X1 operates with a dual-vision tracking system that allows it to perceive its surroundings in 360 degrees. It constantly maps and analyzes the environment and can make its own decisions without needing manual commands. This makes the robot much smarter than most reaction-based home robots. Thanks to its hybrid wheel-leg design, the robot can climb small inclines, move easily on grass or hardwood floors, and also carry loads.

Dobot positions the Rover X1 as a multi-purpose platform rather than a toy. It can be used as an autonomous filming vehicle by attaching a camera, provide a live video stream while patrolling the house, or be converted into an educational tool for teaching programming. Since the system supports both drag-and-drop visual coding and written programming languages, it offers an ideal learning tool for children and beginners.

The Rover X1 can also serve as an emotional companion. It responds to voice commands, follows its owner around the house, shows emotional expressions with its lights, and can carry small items like bags or water bottles.

While not all technical details and the official product page have been fully disclosed, if Dobot can deliver on these promises with solid hardware and user-friendly software, the Rover X1 could completely redefine the concept of a smart home assistant.
