Škoda’s Iconic Coupe Adapted for the Modern Era

Skoda has brought its legendary 110 R model back into the spotlight with the “Icons Get a Makeover” series. The 1970s coupe has been reimagined with a modern design language and an electric interpretation.
Skoda revived one of its unforgettable models from the past, digitally resurrecting the popular 1970s coupe, the 110 R, with a modern flair as part of its “Icons Get a Makeover” series.
When the original 110 R went on sale in 1970, it generated significant interest despite its high price, selling over 57,000 units during its 10-year production run. The new version swaps the rear-mounted four-cylinder gasoline engine for an electric motor. The concept is shaped by the brand’s new Modern Solid design language, rather than retro lines.
Design and Features

The car boasts a futuristic design featuring:
- Retractable headlights
- Fluid body lines
- Concealed sensors
- Digital side mirrors (cameras)
Details like the air intakes on the side, where door handles are absent, and the classic S 110 R badge on the rear pay homage to the past. The single-nut wheels (center-lock wheels) and the air vents on the front hood are reminiscent of the 130 RS model.
Performance and Outlook
While technical specifications haven’t been shared, Skoda emphasizes lightness. The original model weighed only 880 kilograms and, despite its 52 horsepower not making it performance-focused, it was a car with significant character.
Although this work demonstrates the compatibility of Skoda’s new Modern Solid design language with a coupe body type, it appears unlikely that such a model will be adapted for real-life production at this time.
