BYD’s Luxury Brand Yangwang is Coming to Europe

Yangwang models, positioned above even BYD’s Denza brand, combine high performance and luxury. Its European journey will begin with the U8 model, followed by the U9 and U7.

The Chinese automotive giant BYD has officially announced its plans to bring its high-performance and luxury vehicle brand, Yangwang, to Europe. Launched in China in 2023, Yangwang aims to compete with luxury and performance-oriented giants like Bentley, Porsche, and Ferrari.

Yangwang’s European journey kicks off with the U8 model, boasting over 1000 horsepower. This massive luxury SUV stands out not only for its performance but also for its extraordinary technologies like a 360-degree “tank turn” and the ability to float on water. Following this, the fully electric U9 supercar can reach speeds of approximately 386 km/h. The vehicle can also “jump” with its hydraulic suspension system and move on three wheels.

Although the vehicles exhibited at last year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed garnered significant interest, there were no official announcements regarding European market plans at the time. However, now, BYD Vice President Stella Li confirmed this expectation in an interview with Autocar, stating, “We have a plan to bring Yangwang to Europe.” Following the Denza brand, expected to arrive in Europe in early 2026, Yangwang models will also be gradually introduced to the market. The models to be sold in Europe are not limited to just the U8 and U9. The brand is also preparing to bring its super sedan, named the U7. This four-motor vehicle produces 1250 horsepower and 1676 Nm of torque, completing the 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 2.9 seconds.

With this move, BYD will become the first Chinese manufacturer to enter Europe’s ultra-luxury automobile segment. However, the 17% additional customs duty seems likely to significantly increase the vehicles’ prices in Europe compared to China.
