A Special AI Assistant for Teachers and Students from Google is Coming

Google introduces Gemini for Education, its new AI developed specifically for the education sector. The system offers different tools for teachers and students. This platform, which can create audio and visual summaries, aims to support the learning process with AI-powered virtual tutors. In the new era, an assistant is coming that won’t leave students alone in the classroom: Google has announced Gemini, its specialized artificial intelligence tool for education.

At the ISTE Conference, Google introduced its new artificial intelligence solution for the world of education: Gemini for Education. Moreover, this tool is being integrated into the Google Workspace system that schools are already using, free of charge.

AI-powered tutors are on the way.

Among the features that come with Gemini, the tools offering both audio and visual summaries are noteworthy. Teachers will be able to help students grasp subjects more easily by creating AI-powered virtual tutors called “Gems.” Additionally, thanks to Google’s platform named NotebookLM, students can upload their documents to the system and listen to audio summaries of this content. With the newly added Video Overviews feature, these summaries will now be accompanied by visual explanations.

The basic version of the platform will be offered for free. However, for more comprehensive features, a Google Workspace with Gemini add-on will be available for a monthly fee of $18 per user. This version will also allow teachers to produce short videos using a text-to-video tool called Veo.

Google’s move comes at a time when discussions about how artificial intelligence should be integrated into education are ongoing. Although it has high potential to support students, risks such as cheating still concern teachers. For this reason, many educators prefer to return to the old-fashioned pen-and-paper method for exams.
