Artificial Intelligence Features Coming to Windows Notepad
The Notepad application, familiar to almost every Windows user, has seen several significant updates in Windows 11. Known for its simplicity since the 90s, Notepad has evolved with features like modern visual design, spell check, autocorrect, and tabbed windows. Now, it’s being enhanced with a major AI update, introducing a feature called “Rewrite.”
What Are the New AI Features in Notepad?
The Rewrite feature enables users to rephrase selected text, offering variations in length, tone, and phrasing styles. With three rewriting options provided for the chosen text, users can pick the one that best suits their needs. This new addition appears to share similarities with Microsoft’s Copilot, as it utilizes cloud-based processing and requires users to sign in with a Microsoft account.
Faster Launch Time for Notepad
For those who aren’t using the AI features or don’t sign in, Microsoft promises a significant improvement in Notepad’s startup time. According to Microsoft’s Dave Grochocki, this update allows Notepad to open 35% to 55% faster than before.
Currently, these new features are available only to a limited group of testers in selected regions. If testing goes smoothly, these innovations will become part of the stable release for Windows users worldwide.
