AI note-taking is coming to Google Meet

Google has announced the upcoming launch of a new AI-powered feature for its video conferencing platform, Google Meet, which will automatically generate meeting notes.

This new feature, called “Take notes for me,” is part of Google’s suite of Gemini AI tools. It promises to revolutionize the management of online meetings.

Google Meet introduces a new AI feature for meeting notes

This feature will use advanced AI technology to transcribe and summarize meetings in real-time. The generated notes will be stored in the host’s Google Drive folder in accordance with Meet’s retention policy.

Additionally, these notes are fully searchable, making it easy to find the information you need. Initially, this innovation is available only to Google Workspace customers with Gemini Enterprise, Gemini Education Premium, or AI Meetings and Messaging add-on licenses.

Admins will have control over whether to enable the feature and can decide whether to make it available to specific groups of users or the entire organization. According to Google, this feature could radically change the online meeting experience and allow participants to focus on the conversation without worrying about manually taking notes.

However, privacy concerns may arise as the AI will transcribe everything that is said during the meeting. The admin setting will be rolled out gradually starting August 13, 2024. Google is expected to provide a detailed availability timeline in the coming weeks.
