Enhanced Search Experience with Bing’s AI-Powered Design

Microsoft Bing has adopted a new design, heavily incorporating artificial intelligence into its search results page. The refreshed design will also list traditional results.

Artificial intelligence is gradually transforming web search as we know it. Google will soon implement AI Overviews worldwide, providing AI-generated answers for some searches. Similarly, Microsoft Bing is making a similar move to its competitor, displaying extensive AI-generated results for certain queries while preserving traditional search results.

AI touch to Microsoft Bing search page

Microsoft uses a mix of large language models and small language models to optimize the results page in its Bing search engine. For the query “What is a spaghetti western?”, the company shares as an example that Bing offers a few items stating it is “a subgenre of western films produced by Italian filmmakers” and provides additional context. However, it is not limited to that. Regarding spaghetti westerns, more information will be available to the user, such as the history of the genre, related videos, the best movies, and music.

Bing will not provide this type of AI-generated content for every query. Additionally, this feature is not available to everyone and is currently in preview with a small group of users, so there may be changes in the final version.

Frankly, this sounds more convenient than what Google is doing with AI Overviews. However, Bing hasn’t shared what its feature looks like on the mobile side. While it is possible to immediately see traditional results on the right side on the desktop, this will not be the case on mobile. It might be better if the AI search feature is offered as an option in search engines or has an on-off button because the results produced may be erroneous, no matter how much the source is specified.
