Google will make Gemini the star of the 2024 Paris Olympics!
Google has been named the “Official AI Sponsor of Team USA” and will prominently showcase this collaboration throughout its coverage of the 2024 Olympics, which begins on July 26.
The partnership between NBCUniversal and Google will highlight many of Google’s AI-powered features during the event.
One of these features will be the use of Google Maps’ 3D views of iconic landmarks such as Versailles, Stade Roland Garros, and the Aquatics Centre. These 3D views, part of the Immersive Views feature added to Google Maps in recent years, will provide photorealistic models of these areas and landmarks, offering detailed information about the events taking place there.
To promote Gemini and other AI tools, Olympic and Paralympic presenters will use Google Search AI Overviews to answer questions about the games. This integration aims to enhance the viewing experience with richer and more informative content. It is hoped that previous AI errors, such as suggesting adding glue to pizza or opening the film completely to relieve film congestion, will not be repeated.
AI-generated summaries featuring Al Michaels’ voice will also be part of the broadcast, adding a technological edge to the coverage. Additionally, comedian Leslie Jones will participate in scripted events using Gemini to learn new sports, bringing fun and humor to the broadcast.
Five Olympic and Paralympic athletes will explore Paris using Gemini, Google Lens, Circle to Search, and Google Maps Immersive View in social media videos and late-night promotions. These features will be highlighted to showcase the real-world applications of Google’s AI tools and enhance the experience for both athletes and spectators.
This extensive integration of Google’s AI technology into the Olympic broadcast represents a significant step in the company’s efforts to demonstrate its advancements in artificial intelligence.
As the official AI sponsor, Google aims to enhance the Olympic viewing experience and make a lasting impression on the global audience through innovative features and informative content.
