6 New Features Coming to ChatGPT with GPT-5

OpenAI has officially introduced its new large language model, GPT-5, and announced that several new features will be coming to ChatGPT with it. Here are those features.

OpenAI formally unveiled its most advanced AI model to date, GPT-5, in a presentation on the evening of August 7th. GPT-5 brings with it many new, advanced capabilities, from making fewer mistakes to high-level reasoning. It was made available to all individual users from day one.

The GPT-5 model will power ChatGPT, the world’s most popular AI tool. In addition to GPT-5, the company also announced new features that will be added to ChatGPT. So, what new features can we expect to see with GPT-5? Here are six major features coming soon to the AI tool.

Goodbye to Choosing Models

Following the launch of GPT-5, the company is removing the option to select between the different models it has offered until now. GPT-5 will now be the default model powering ChatGPT. This model will use a system that combines the previous models according to the user’s needs, eliminating the need to select models individually. When you look at the model selection menu, you will now see only GPT-5 and other models, whereas previously many different models were listed.

New Personalities for ChatGPT

One of the most significant innovations coming to ChatGPT will be the addition of four new “personalities” for text-based responses. OpenAI says that each of these personalities has different characteristics and can communicate with you in that style. These can be fun to use, but if you don’t want them, you can revert to the default version of ChatGPT.

  • Cynic: Sarcastic and blunt. It offers help with a witty tone and often teases you. For important topics, it gives direct and practical answers.
  • Robot: Precise, efficient, and unemotional. It gives direct answers without unnecessary fluff.
  • Listener: Warm and relaxed. It listens to you, understands your thoughts, and responds accordingly.
  • Nerd: Playful and curious. It loves information and explains concepts clearly to the user.

Much Better Coding

With the arrival of GPT-5, ChatGPT’s coding abilities using natural language commands have also improved. It can now understand more complex commands when creating an application or website. In OpenAI’s demo, the model was able to create a French language-learning website in a short time.

Customization Features

While not a new feature of GPT-5 itself, this is a big deal for ChatGPT. OpenAI is bringing more customization to the app. Users will be able to make adjustments to ChatGPT’s interface. For example, the accent color of chat bubbles and voice buttons can be changed.

Advanced Voice Mode is Getting Even Better

ChatGPT had a feature called “advanced voice mode” which allowed the AI to speak with you like a real person. With this update, the new mode will start to understand user instructions much better. Additionally, it will allow subscribers to adjust the style of speech. The old standard voice mode will also be removed. The advanced voice mode will be offered to free users for “hours” and to paid users with nearly unlimited usage.

Gmail and Google Calendar Integration

OpenAI is also adding new features for integrating ChatGPT with Google services. Users will now be able to easily connect their Gmail and Google Calendar to the AI tool. When you enter a command like “Help me plan my schedule for tomorrow,” ChatGPT will help you with planning, check for missed emails, and do much more. This allows it to function as a full-fledged assistant.
