Software giant Microsoft has terminated its metaverse team, consisting of 100 people, to shift its focus more towards artificial intelligence following its investment in OpenAI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the team being established just four months ago, Microsoft decided to disband it. The team was dedicated to assisting customers in leveraging the metaverse for industrial applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AltspaceVR, the social virtual reality platform founded by Eric Romo in 2013 and acquired by Microsoft in 2017, has been shut down, as reported by The Information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following this move, the team working on the Microsoft HoloLens headset was also let go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reports indicate that Microsoft is prioritizing productive AI, with investments in OpenAI and the integration of the ChatGPT chatbot into its services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company had earlier announced the development of a specialized search engine and browser utilizing ChatGPT technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
