The South Korea Communications Commission (KCC), the official media regulator in South Korea, recently held a meeting with Meta’s Vice President of Product Policy and Strategy, Andy O’Connell, focusing on enhancing user security in the ‘metaverse’.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

During this meeting, they discussed strategies to bolster the safety of ‘metaverse’ users. KCC Vice President Ahn Hyoung-hwan urged O’Connell and Meta to collaborate with South Korea on security measures for the metaverse and other virtual platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The discussions between Hyoung-hwan and O’Connell also covered ensuring transparency in the algorithms behind digital platforms and strategies to prevent the spread of illegal information on these platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

South Korea has been actively combating harassment crimes reported by ‘metaverse’ users. Earlier this year, the KCC established a new council dedicated to preventing such misconduct in the ‘metaverse’.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On a related note, Meta is the developer behind Horizon Worlds, a virtual reality technology-based ‘metaverse’ platform. As of now, Horizon Worlds is accessible only to individuals in selected regions within North America and Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There have been instances where users of Horizon Worlds<\/a><\/em><\/strong> have reported cases of harassment experienced on the platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response to these incidents, Meta introduced the personal space feature in Horizon Worlds. This feature restricts user avatars from coming closer than 4 meters to any avatars that are not marked as their friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
