Neal Stephenson, the speculative fiction writer who introduced the concept of a virtual reality world called the Metaverse in his 1992 science fiction novel Snow Crash<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, has teamed up with Peter Vessenes to launch a new layer-1 blockchain named LAMINA1. Stephenson, aged 62, is not only known for his writing but also founded the augmented reality (AR) firm Magic, where he held the position of chief futurist from 2014 to 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The primary goal of LAMINA1<\/strong>, as described by former Bitcoin Foundation president Peter Vessenes on June 8, is to serve as the “base layer for the Open Metaverse.” He further mentioned that the network is anticipated to be “probably” carbon negative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
