In the same period, <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/metaverseplanet.net\/blog\/nuclear-power-plants-fueling-ai-data-centers\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"15839\">nuclear<\/a><\/em> production<\/strong> is also preparing to break records.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>International Energy Agency (IEA)<\/strong> announced that <strong>global electricity demand<\/strong> will increase by an average of more than <strong>3 percent<\/strong> annually until <strong>2026<\/strong>. Emerging economies in <strong>Asia<\/strong>, and expansion in <strong>industry<\/strong>, <strong>transportation<\/strong>, and <strong>data center<\/strong> usage are triggering this growth. The majority of the demand will be met by <strong>renewable energy<\/strong>, <strong>natural gas<\/strong>, and <strong>nuclear sources<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the <strong>IEA<\/strong>&#8216;s mid-year update report, <strong>electricity consumption<\/strong> will increase by <strong>3.3%<\/strong> in <strong>2025<\/strong> and <strong>3.7%<\/strong> in <strong>2026<\/strong>. This rate significantly surpasses the <strong>2.6%<\/strong> average of the <strong>2015-2023<\/strong> period. In the same period, <strong>nuclear <em><a href=\"https:\/\/metaverseplanet.net\/blog\/future-energy-technologies\/\" data-type=\"category\" data-id=\"198\">energy<\/a><\/em> production<\/strong> is expected to reach <strong>record levels<\/strong>. The reactivation of power plants in <strong>Japan<\/strong>, strong production performance in the <strong>US<\/strong> and <strong>France<\/strong>, and new projects in <strong>Asia<\/strong> will be influential in this increase. Additionally, <strong>natural gas power plants<\/strong> are increasingly substituting <strong>coal<\/strong> and <strong>oil<\/strong> usage. With this transformation, <strong>carbon emissions<\/strong> from <strong>electricity generation<\/strong> are expected to remain flat in <strong>2025<\/strong> and show a slight decline in <strong>2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>60%<\/strong> of the <strong>global demand increase<\/strong> will come from developing economies in <strong>Asia<\/strong>. <strong>China<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>electricity consumption<\/strong> will rise by <strong>5.7%<\/strong> in <strong>2026<\/strong>, and <strong>India<\/strong>&#8216;s by <strong>6.6%<\/strong>. The growth of <strong>data centers<\/strong> in the <strong>US<\/strong> will ensure demand remains above <strong>2%<\/strong> annually until <strong>2026<\/strong>. In the <strong>European Union<\/strong>, while <strong>electricity demand<\/strong> increases by approximately <strong>1%<\/strong> in <strong>2025<\/strong>, it is expected to accelerate further in <strong>2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Prices Increased, Competition Unbalanced<\/strong> In the first half of <strong>2025<\/strong>, <strong>wholesale electricity prices<\/strong> in the <strong>European Union<\/strong> and the <strong>US<\/strong> increased by <strong>30% to 40%<\/strong> compared to last year. The main reason is tightening <strong>natural gas markets<\/strong>. Although prices remain below the <strong>2023<\/strong> average, they still hover well above <strong>2019<\/strong>. Furthermore, increasingly frequent <strong>negative wholesale prices<\/strong> reveal an urgent need for investments in <strong>grid flexibility<\/strong>, <strong>energy storage<\/strong>, and <strong>flexible consumption<\/strong>. <strong>Industrial competition<\/strong> shows serious differences between regions.
