NASA<\/strong> has lost connection with the MAVEN spacecraft<\/strong> in Mars orbit<\/strong>. While it was announced that signal loss<\/strong> occurred after the satellite passed behind the planet, engineers are working on solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NASA confirmed that it has lost contact<\/strong> with one of its most important satellites around the Red Planet<\/strong>. Communication with the orbiter named MAVEN (Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN)<\/strong> was cut off during routine operations<\/strong> on December 6<\/strong> as it was passing behind Mars<\/a><\/em><\/strong>. Under normal conditions, NASA\u2019s Deep Space Network (DSN)<\/strong> system automatically re-establishes the connection once the signal line, blocked by the planet, opens up again. However, this time, no signal was received as MAVEN emerged from the expected point, and DSN’s attempts to regain access failed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement made on December 9<\/strong>, NASA<\/a><\/em><\/strong> noted that satellite and operations teams are investigating the “anomaly<\/strong>.” The agency emphasized that data received from MAVEN just prior to the loss of contact<\/strong> showed there was no deviation in its orbit<\/strong> and that all subsystems<\/strong> were operating normally. This situation indicates that the problem could stem from the satellite’s hardware<\/strong>, software<\/strong>, or communication antennas<\/strong>. After a journey lasting approximately 10 months, the vehicle settled into Mars orbit<\/strong> and has been conducting uninterrupted scientific observations<\/strong> for over a decade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, MAVEN is not just a scientific platform; it is also a critical communications bridge<\/strong> for missions operating on the surface. Playing a major role in connecting the Perseverance<\/strong> and Curiosity<\/strong> rovers with Earth, MAVEN undertakes this task alongside NASA\u2019s MRO<\/strong> and Odyssey<\/strong> satellites, as well as ESA\u2019s Mars Express (MEX)<\/strong> and ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO)<\/strong> vehicles.
