The structure in Corsicana, Texas<\/strong>, which began construction in 2024<\/strong> and was designed as the world’s largest Bitcoin mining facility<\/strong>, is transforming into an AI factory<\/strong> just a year and a half later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two-thirds<\/strong> of the facility, once viewed as a Bitcoin<\/a><\/em><\/strong> “temple” in Texas, will now be used for artificial intelligence (AI)<\/strong> and High-Performance Computing (HPC)<\/strong> activities, utilizing its high energy capacity<\/strong> and infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to the AI sector’s need for massive data centers<\/strong> and infrastructure capable of handling high energy consumption<\/strong>, at least nine Bitcoin companies\u2014including Bitfarms, Core Scientific, Riot, IREN, TeraWulf, CleanSpark, Bit Digital, MARA Holdings, and Cipher Mining<\/strong>\u2014have announced over the last 18 months that they are shifting part of their operations to AI services<\/strong>. Together, they have signed AI and HPC contracts<\/strong> exceeding a total value of $43 billion<\/strong>. Analysts note that companies have realized AI investment costs<\/strong> are lower, as they simply remove mining machines from already established facilities and replace them with GPUs<\/strong> provided by new tenants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mining Profitability Is Falling<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

While competition in Bitcoin mining<\/a><\/em><\/strong> has increased exponentially, the halving<\/strong> event in 2024, which cut the block reward<\/strong> by half, has further reduced profitability. The decline in Bitcoin prices<\/strong> has also put pressure on mining revenues<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to an analysis by CoinShares<\/strong>, only a small number of mining companies remained profitable by mid-November. In contrast, the AI sector<\/strong> offered predictable revenue thanks to much higher profit margins<\/strong> and long-term contracts<\/strong> signed with major technology companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bitfarms CEO Ben Gagnon<\/strong> argues that Bitcoin mining is still profitable but emphasizes that HPC<\/strong> “creates much greater value per unit of energy<\/strong> and provides this predictably for years.” For this reason, the company no longer finds it logical to make new investments in mining devices<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This rapid transformation from crypto mining<\/strong> to artificial intelligence<\/strong> indicates that for large facilities capable of high energy consumption, the real profitable area is no longer mining, but artificial intelligence<\/a><\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
