Pebble<\/strong> has introduced its affordable smart ring<\/strong>. The Pebble Index 01<\/strong> allows you to quickly take voice notes<\/strong> with its built-in microphone<\/strong>, but that is not its only function.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pebble’s new smart ring is a finger-worn voice recorder<\/strong>. The Pebble Index 01<\/strong> records voice notes<\/strong> to a paired smartphone and can also perform functions like setting reminders<\/strong> and controlling music playback<\/strong>. Designed specifically for certain use cases, the product is now up for pre-order<\/strong> at $75<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Does the Pebble Index 01 Offer?<\/strong> Unlike typical smart rings, the Pebble Index 01<\/strong> does not perform activity or sleep tracking<\/strong>. Pebble defines the product as a memory device<\/strong> designed to record voice notes to the Pebble app on the phone. Recordings are processed and stored locally<\/strong> by default. No subscription<\/strong> is required to use the ring, but an optional cloud service<\/strong> allows for online backup and higher quality speech-to-text<\/a><\/em><\/strong> conversion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Holding down the button<\/strong> starts the voice recording. When you release the button, the recorded audio is sent to the Pebble app<\/strong>. The ring can be used to take notes this way; it is also possible to set reminders<\/strong> or create to-do lists<\/strong> using the microphone<\/strong>. Local LLMs<\/strong> running on the Pebble app determine what type of action your input should trigger. Pebble emphasizes that the Index 01<\/strong> does not record all the time and is not intended for manual recording of long, continuous voice logs. Recording is active only as long as the ring’s button<\/strong> is held down, and the internal storage<\/strong> allows for approximately five minutes<\/strong> of recording. When recordings are transferred to the paired phone, space is automatically freed up in the storage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ring is made of stainless steel<\/strong> and comes in three color options: silver<\/strong>, gold<\/strong>, and black<\/strong>. Sizes range from 6 to 13<\/strong>. It is water-resistant<\/strong> and does not require charging<\/strong>. Pebble states that the battery provides 12 – 15 hours of recording time<\/strong>, which equates to 10-20 recordings<\/strong> of 3-6 seconds in length per day (presumably over its lifespan).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The price of the Pebble Index 01<\/strong> is $75<\/strong>, and it can be pre-ordered from the Pebble site<\/strong>. The ring will begin shipping in March 2026<\/strong>, after which the price will rise to $99<\/strong>.
