While ChatGPT<\/strong> maintains its global leadership<\/strong>, its growth rate<\/strong> is noticeably slowing down. Google’s Gemini model<\/strong>, on the other hand, is rapidly coming to the fore in areas such as downloads<\/strong>, user growth<\/strong>, and time spent in the app<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ChatGPT<\/strong>, the long-time leader in the AI market<\/strong>, has now entered a slower growth curve, as new data indicates. A recent report published by market analysis company Sensor Tower<\/strong> reveals that while 50% of global mobile downloads<\/strong> and 55% of monthly active users<\/strong> still belong to ChatGPT<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, the growth rate<\/strong> has significantly declined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In contrast, Google’s Gemini<\/a><\/em> model<\/strong> has started to take the lead in critical metrics such as download growth<\/strong>, monthly active user count<\/strong>, and time spent in the app<\/strong>. This momentum signals that Gemini<\/strong> could rapidly close the market share<\/strong> gap with ChatGPT<\/strong>. It is reported that OpenAI’s<\/strong> recently issued internal “emergency<\/strong>” note, which reportedly caused alarm within the company, was prepared based on this picture. Sam Altman<\/strong> had instructed employees to improve the experience in ChatGPT<\/strong> and postponed other projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recent data reveals that competition<\/strong> is still intense. As of November 2025<\/strong>, while ChatGPT’s global monthly active user count<\/strong> increased by 180% annually<\/strong>, the annual increase in Gemini’s user count<\/strong> reached 170%<\/strong>. However, the picture changes when looking at the short term. In the August-November period<\/strong>, ChatGPT’s global active user count<\/strong> increased by only about 6%<\/strong>, reaching a total of 810 million<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the other hand, Google Gemini<\/strong> grew by approximately 30%<\/strong> in the same period. It is stated that this leap stems from the popularity created by the company’s new image generation model Nano Banana<\/strong> in September. The fact that Android users<\/strong> in the US are increasingly using Gemini<\/strong> directly through the operating system<\/strong> also provides Google<\/strong> with a strategic advantage<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Download data<\/strong> draws a similar picture. While ChatGPT’s global download count<\/strong> increased by 85% annually<\/strong> as of November, it lagged behind the average growth of the entire market. The biggest leap was seen in Perplexity<\/strong> with 215%<\/strong>, followed by Gemini<\/strong> with 190%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Balances are also changing in terms of the time users spend in the application. According to Sensor Tower<\/strong>, the daily usage time<\/strong> of Gemini users<\/strong> increased by 120%<\/strong> in recent months, rising to 11 minutes<\/strong>. The Nano Banana model<\/strong> is again at the center of this increase. On the ChatGPT<\/strong> side, daily usage time<\/strong> increased by only 6%<\/strong> in the same period. In fact, usage time in November remained 10% below July data<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
