US-based Atlas has launched Atlas Eon 100<\/strong>, the world’s first scalable DNA data storage solution<\/strong>. The system, which stores data on synthetic DNA<\/strong>, promises long longevity and high data density<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Atlas Data Storage<\/strong>, a startup working on DNA-based storage technologies<\/strong>, has introduced its first commercial product. The company launched the service named Atlas Eon 100<\/strong>, describing it as the world’s first scalable DNA data storage solution<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This technology converts traditional bits<\/strong> (ones and zeros) into the genetic code<\/strong> of living organisms. In synthetically developed DNA<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, data is recorded as Adenine (A), Cytosine (C), Guanine (G), and Thymine (T)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Atlas’s claims, Eon 100<\/strong> can store data for thousands of years<\/strong> without the need for any refresh process<\/strong>. Additionally, it is stated to be resistant to temperatures up to 40\u00b0C<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company compares its technology to magnetic tape technology<\/a><\/em><\/strong>. It notes that magnetic tape requires constant refreshing every 7-10 years<\/strong> and demands storage facilities with special temperature and humidity controls<\/strong>. The company also claims that replication with DNA is easier and faster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another claim concerns storage density<\/strong>. Atlas states that its archive solution can store a massive 60 PB (petabytes)<\/strong> of data in a volume of 980 cm\u00b3 (approximately 1 liter)<\/strong>. An Atlas Eon 100<\/strong> storage rack at this density is approximately 1000 times denser<\/strong> compared to creating the same capacity with LTO-10 tape<\/strong>, meaning it takes up much less space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
