According to the new plan, <strong>Starliner-1<\/strong> will primarily carry <strong>cargo<\/strong>, followed by a maximum of three additional missions until the <strong>ISS<\/strong> is retired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stich stated that this change would allow <strong>NASA and Boeing<\/strong> to focus on safely certifying the system in 2026, performing <strong>Starliner&#8217;s first crew rotation<\/strong> when ready, and planning future missions based on the station&#8217;s operational needs until 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2014, both <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/metaverseplanet.net\/blog\/tag\/spacex\/\" data-type=\"post_tag\" data-id=\"153\">SpaceX<\/a><\/em><\/strong> and <strong>Boeing<\/strong> signed contracts to develop <strong>crewed spacecraft<\/strong>. While SpaceX performed a successful crewed test flight in mid-2020 and its first operational mission later that year with the <strong>Crew Dragon vehicle<\/strong>, <strong>Boeing<\/strong> faced difficulties during development. Consequently, <strong>Dragon<\/strong> became a <strong>reliable transport system<\/strong> for NASA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Starliner&#8217;s<\/strong> first <strong>uncrewed flight<\/strong> in December 2019 was interrupted by <strong>software issues<\/strong>, and the vehicle was nearly lost. The danger of this flight became clear nearly a year later. <strong>Starliner<\/strong> managed to dock, but after heated discussions, <strong>NASA<\/strong> decided the vehicle should return to <strong>Earth<\/strong> <strong>uncrewed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result, to bring the crew back safely, a <strong>Dragon mission<\/strong> carrying only two astronauts launched in late 2024, and <strong>Wilmore and Williams<\/strong> returned safely to Earth in <strong>March 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the incident, the expectation that <strong>Boeing<\/strong> needed to conduct an <strong>uncrewed flight<\/strong> to prove the safety of its <strong>propulsion system<\/strong> was officially confirmed.
