Although artificial intelligence has rapidly spread to every area of our lives in recent years, amidst this technology revolution, perhaps the most curious question is this: Can machines<\/strong> only perform logical tasks<\/strong>, or is it scientifically possible for artificial intelligence to learn emotions<\/strong>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Will we encounter an artificial intelligence that can feel, rejoice, or get sad just like in science fiction<\/a><\/em><\/strong> movies? In this content, we will scrutinize the concept of “emotional AI<\/strong>” and the scientific foundations<\/strong> of this goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is Emotion and How Does AI Understand It?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To get to the root of the subject, one must first understand what we call “emotion<\/strong>.” In humans, emotions are not just a mental state<\/strong>, but a set of biological<\/strong> and chemical reactions<\/strong>. Artificial intelligence is trained with millions of facial expressions<\/strong>, voice tones<\/strong>, and text data<\/strong>. Thanks to this training<\/strong>, it statistically<\/strong> learns that frowned eyebrows and a lowered voice tone mean “anger<\/strong>” or “sadness<\/strong>.” In other words, it fundamentally learns the expression patterns<\/strong> of that emotion, not the emotion<\/strong> itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to our current scientific understanding<\/strong>, machines do not possess a conscious experience<\/strong>. They are merely complex computational systems<\/strong> designed to produce the most logical outputs<\/strong> in response to the inputs<\/strong> (data) they receive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If what we mean is to recognize<\/strong> and analyze<\/strong> human emotions with near-perfect accuracy and react to them like a human, the answer is yes<\/strong>; scientifically, this is already largely possible and developing rapidly. However, if what we mean is subjective, biological<\/strong>, and conscious experiences<\/strong>\u2014like the “joy<\/strong>” a human feels when waking up in the morning or the “pain<\/strong>” felt when experiencing a loss\u2014the answer is no<\/strong> with current technology and scientific paradigms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For machines to “feel<\/strong>,” they would need to mimic not just data processing<\/strong>, but also subjective consciousness<\/strong>, which remains a much deeper mystery that science<\/strong> has not yet solved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
