Renault could introduce hybrid versions of the electric Megane<\/strong> and Scenic<\/strong>. Plug-in hybrid and range-extender versions are currently on the agenda for the new multi-energy platform for the Megane E-Tech<\/strong> and Scenic E-Tech<\/strong>, which are currently only offered in a 100% electric<\/strong> form. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Renault had launched the Megane<\/strong> and Scenic<\/strong> models solely as 100% electric<\/strong> vehicles. However, hybrid versions for this duo may come onto the agenda. Company executives confirmed that the brand\u2019s new multi-fuel-supported platform<\/strong> is under development. This platform will form the basis of Renault’s future C-segment models. –<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Renault CEO Fabrice Cambolive explained that the platform is primarily being developed as an all-electric architecture<\/strong> but is also designed to support plug-in hybrid<\/strong> and range-extender electric vehicle (EREV)<\/strong> powertrains. This flexibility will allow other options to be easily added if electric<\/strong> sales do not progress at the expected pace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stating that Renault has been successful with the all-electric platform<\/strong> in the B-segment, Cambolive said that a multi-energy plan<\/strong> would be more suitable for the C and D segments. This approach will enable the brand to offer flexible power options<\/strong> in its larger models. The new platform is expected to hit the market around 2030<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although executives did not detail which models the platform will cover, the timing suggests the renewal of the CMF-EV-based Megane E-Tech<\/strong>, introduced in 2022, and the Scenic<\/strong> models launched in 2024. This means Renault could offer these two currently all-electric<\/strong> models with internal combustion engine<\/strong> options again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cambolive explained that the developed hybrid system<\/strong> would be based on a structure where the electric motors<\/strong> handle the propulsion, and the petrol engine<\/strong> functions only as a generator<\/strong> to charge the battery. Cambolive stated, “Do we want series propulsion<\/strong> or direct propulsion? The logic favors all-electric traction<\/strong>,” adding that this method would allow drivers to experience electric driving<\/strong> without range anxiety<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although there is no information about the source of the small petrol engine<\/strong>, it is thought that the engine could be developed by Horse<\/strong>, a joint venture between Renault<\/strong> and Geely<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new C-segment platform is part of Renault\u2019s strategy to increase production efficiency<\/strong>. The company aims to reduce the production time<\/strong> to 21 months and cut costs<\/strong> by 25%<\/strong>, similar to the recently introduced Twingo<\/strong> model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
