The system is designed to be compatible with many models, including Tesla.

One of the most common problems users of electric vehicles face is the capacity loss of EV batteries over time. The reduction in range on a full charge can often be solved with expensive battery replacements. However, Croatian-based EV Clinic has developed an innovative system that could provide a radical solution to this situation. The company’s new “plug-and-play” range extender battery can add approximately 100 kilometers of extra range to the vehicle without touching the existing battery.

Suitable for Every Electric Vehicle

The system, which is still in the prototype phase, was first used on a Tesla Model S. EV Clinic engineers managed to preserve most of the cargo space by integrating this range extender battery into the deep compartment under the vehicle’s trunk. The device has 17.1 kWh of usable energy capacity, and four modules consisting of prismatic cells manufactured by Samsung SDI take on the energy storage task.

The battery module includes an independent battery management system, a pyrotechnic fuse taken from a Tesla Model 3, a custom-made cooling plate, and a cooling pump adapted from a Tesla Model S. All components allow the system to be connected in parallel to the vehicle’s original battery via Rapid Mate connectors. This connection structure reduces internal resistance loss, offering a faster charging capability. The company states that while the maximum charging power does not change, the charging curve becomes more efficient.

EV Clinic has also integrated a diagnostic module and special software into the battery pack. This allows drivers to easily monitor the status and performance of the range extender. Engineers have also been careful about safety, stating that in the event of a possible malfunction, the battery can automatically isolate itself from the high-voltage system.

Will Save from a Serious Financial Burden

The first prototype was developed for the 85 kWh Tesla Model S version. However, the company plans to offer compatible versions for aging electric vehicles like the 75 kWh Tesla models, Volkswagen e-Golf, Nissan Leaf, and Smart EV in the future. No official statement has been made about the price yet. However, according to EV Clinic, this system is expected to be much more cost-effective than completely replacing the battery of an older Tesla Model S or Model X. This is because battery replacement for these models can cost between $15,000 and $25,000 today.

You Might Also Like;

The Dark Side of Nanotechnology: Could Microscopic Swarms Erase Billions?

The Illusion of Digital Immortality: Are You Really Uploading Your Mind?

The View That Changes Everything: Artemis 2’s Deep Space Eclipse

EV Clinic, based in Croatia, has developed a battery module that adds up to 100 kilometers of extra range to every electric vehicle.
