Bahrain<\/strong> is commencing a gigantic solar energy project<\/strong> with a capacity of 123 MWp<\/strong>. The 50 MW capacity rooftop system<\/strong> to be installed under this project will be the world’s largest rooftop solar power plant<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Foulath Holding<\/strong>, based in Bahrain, has partnered with Yellow Door Energy<\/strong>, one of the Middle East and Africa\u2019s leading sustainable energy<\/a><\/em> developers<\/strong>, to launch a massive solar energy project with a total capacity of 123 MWp<\/strong>. The project is considered a historic step in line with the country’s Net Zero 2060 target<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project, spearheaded by Foulath Holding, will include the world’s largest single-site rooftop solar power plant<\/strong>. This 50 MWp capacity rooftop system<\/strong> will be installed on a new 262,000 square meter<\/strong> stockpile area and will house 77,000 solar panels<\/strong>. The total capacity of the facility will be 123 MWp<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upon completion, the facility will consist of 10 rooftop<\/strong> and 4 ground-mounted photovoltaic systems<\/strong>, and it will be recorded as one of the world’s largest industrial-scale “on-site” solar power generation facilities<\/strong>. Housing a total of 189,900 high-efficiency panels<\/strong>, the facility will cover an area of 707,000 square meters<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For small island nations like Bahrain, establishing large-scale solar power plants<\/strong> on wide open land is not an ideal option. Therefore, rooftop systems<\/strong> offer a sustainable solution<\/strong> for renewable energy production<\/strong> by ensuring space efficiency<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Comprising a total of ten rooftop and four ground-mounted photovoltaic systems, the facility is expected to generate approximately 200 million kilowatt-hours (kWh)<\/strong> of clean electricity<\/strong> in its first year. This production will significantly reduce the environmental impact by cutting 90,000 metric tons<\/strong> of carbon emissions<\/strong> annually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project is a continuation of Foulath Holding’s long-term environmental strategy<\/strong>. The company’s Chairman, Meshary Al-Judaimi, announced that they have invested approximately $250 million<\/strong> in sustainability<\/strong> in recent years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to data from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)<\/strong>, Bahrain’s total solar energy capacity reached 66 MW<\/strong> by the end of last year. The country had announced plans in 2017 to commission 255 MW<\/strong> of solar power capacity by the end of this year. The country’s Electricity and Water Authority launched a tender for 100 MW<\/strong> of solar power last month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
