Google’s new quantum chip<\/strong> named “Willow<\/strong>” is initiating the quantum era<\/strong> in the scientific world. But how, to what extent, and when will this development affect daily life?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Google has, so to speak, initiated a new era in the world of science with its quantum chip<\/strong> called “Willow<\/strong>.” The company’s algorithm, named “Quantum Echoes<\/strong>,” has made a massive leap, running an astonishing 13,000 times faster<\/strong> than classic supercomputers<\/strong>. Most importantly, this achievement is repeatable<\/strong>, allowing it to be verified on other quantum computers<\/a><\/strong>. According to Google, this development will pave the way for the real-world application of quantum technology<\/strong> within the next five years<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tom O’Brien from the Google Quantum AI<\/strong> team, which led the research, said, “This achievement brings us one step closer to moving quantum technologies<\/strong> into the mainstream<\/strong>.” This progress by the company has also given it a significant advantage in the global quantum race<\/strong> being conducted with Microsoft, IBM, and numerous startups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One application area for the algorithm developed by Google is molecular structure analysis<\/strong>. In a second study, which has not yet undergone peer review<\/strong>, researchers suggest that this method could revolutionize drug discovery<\/strong> and next-generation battery designs<\/strong>. However, for these applications to become a reality, quantum computers<\/strong> that are 10,000 times more powerful<\/strong> than current machines are needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Google team, which includes 2025 Nobel Physics Prize<\/strong> winner Michel H. Devoret<\/strong>, is determined to scale up their machines and increase their accuracy to reach this goal. Scientist Scott Aaronson<\/strong> stated that he was “beguiled” by this development, but still noted that reaching commercial application<\/strong> involves significant challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
