Tesla has relaunched the controversial \u201cMad Max<\/strong>\u201d mode in its autonomous driving<\/strong> technology. The driver assistance system, marketed by the company as \u201cFull Self-Driving (Supervised)<\/strong>,\u201d is being reinstated with this mode, which disregards speed limits, in the latest update. This move by Tesla is quite noteworthy, as the driving software is under scrutiny by multiple regulatory agencies in the U.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Given the recent attention due to fatal accidents<\/strong> and lawsuits, Tesla was expected to adopt a more cautious communication style. However, the company did the opposite by bringing back the \u201cMad Max<\/strong>\u201d mode, which symbolizes an aggressive driving style<\/strong>. The new mode is part of Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD)<\/strong> software, which is classified as a Level 2 autonomous driving system<\/strong> and is claimed to reach Level 4 full autonomy in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The FSD v14 release last week was the first major update in nearly a year and had added a slower driving profile called \u201cSloth Mode<\/strong>.\u201d The company is now adding the complete opposite to the table with the FSD v14.1.2 version: the \u201cMad Max<\/strong>\u201d mode. According to Tesla’s statement, this mode can reach higher speeds<\/strong> and perform frequent lane changes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \u201cMad Max<\/strong>\u201d driving mode was first introduced in $2018$ during the Autopilot<\/strong> era. However, according to initial user tests, the system can bypass stop signs<\/strong> without coming to a complete stop and can exceed the speed limit by approximately $24 \\text{ km\/h}$.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
