Xiaomi\u2019s new model, the YU9<\/strong>, has been spotted during high-altitude testing<\/strong> in the Xinjiang region<\/strong> of China. The company is evaluating the vehicle’s durability and performance under challenging conditions on the Pamir Plateau<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SUV<\/strong>, named YU9<\/strong>, which is set to be Xiaomi’s third car model, was spotted during road tests<\/strong> in the Xinjiang region<\/strong> of China. Posts by the company’s senior executives indicated that high-altitude testing<\/strong> is ongoing on the Pamir Plateau<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CEO Lei Jun<\/strong> announced on Weibo<\/strong> that the test team had reached the Panlong Ancient Road<\/strong>. This mountain road, approximately 30 kilometers<\/strong> long, features over 600 sharp turns<\/strong> and is located at an altitude of more than 3,500 meters<\/strong>. Lei Jun<\/strong> described it as a “challenging but fascinating route.” More than 20 Xiaomi engineers<\/strong> are currently evaluating the vehicle’s durability<\/strong> and charging performance<\/strong> during this phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The technical specifications of the Xiaomi YU9<\/strong> are not yet finalized, but reports from local media suggest it might feature an Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (EREV)<\/strong> system. Some sources claim the vehicle could offer a pure electric range<\/strong> of over 400 km<\/strong> with an 80 kWh battery capacity<\/strong>. The total range remains unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The YU9<\/strong> is expected to be positioned in the D-segment<\/strong>, with a length exceeding 5.2 meters<\/strong> and a height of around 1.8 meters<\/strong>. However, some prototypes were observed without this hardware during testing, indicating that different equipment levels are being evaluated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
