Ferrari<\/strong> is preparing for the biggest transformation in its history with the Elettrica<\/strong>, its first electric model, featuring four motors<\/strong> and over 1,000 horsepower<\/strong>. The Ferrari Elettrica<\/strong> is coming with a range of 530 km<\/strong> and 350 kW fast charging<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ferrari is finally stepping into the electric car race. The Italian manufacturer is preparing to undertake one of the most radical transformations in the brand’s history with its first fully electric model, the “Ferrari<\/a><\/em> Elettrica<\/strong>,” which is scheduled for release next year. Notably, this model is not an electric version of an existing vehicle but is built on an entirely new, purpose-designed performance platform<\/strong>. However, Ferrari has yet to reveal the actual vehicle or announce a definitive launch date. The image above is a concept design for the vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ferrari Elettrica<\/strong> will produce over 1,000 horsepower<\/strong> from four independent electric motors. These motors are supported by 4WS (Four-Wheel Steering)<\/strong>, a 48-volt active suspension<\/strong>, and a dedicated 800-volt architecture<\/strong>. The Elettrica is described as the brand’s most advanced engineering product to date, capable of individually controlling each wheel thanks to a technology Ferrari calls “full active corners<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This system adjusts the car’s traction, suspension, and steering behavior 200 times per second<\/strong>. The outer wheels receive more torque in corners to increase stability, while the rear wheels automatically steer inward at high speeds to maintain stability. Furthermore, the front motors can be completely disengaged when necessary, allowing the Elettrica to behave like a rear-wheel-drive<\/strong> Ferrari.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Ferrari did not share the exact segment definition for the model, a slide used in the presentation suggested the Elettrica’s position is related to the former GTC4Lusso<\/strong>. This implies the car will be positioned as a four-door grand tourer<\/strong>, sitting somewhere between a shooting brake and a small crossover. Consequently, for the first time in the brand’s history, Ferrari will be selling two four-door models simultaneously: the Purosangue SUV and the Elettrica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the Elettrica is not positioned as a purebred supercar, its acceleration figures are impressive. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km\/h (0-62 mph) in 2.5 seconds<\/strong>. However, the 122 kWh lithium-ion battery pack<\/strong> makes the vehicle quite heavy. Ferrari states the energy density of this battery is 195 Wh\/kg<\/strong>. Thanks to this, the vehicle offers a range of approximately 530 kilometers<\/strong> based on WLTP measurements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Elettrica will support fast charging up to 350 kW<\/strong> thanks to its 800-volt system<\/strong>. Ferrari engineers note that the car can take on 70 kWh of energy<\/strong> (about 57% of the battery) in 20 minutes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first things that come to mind when mentioning Ferrari are the color red and the sound, leading to concerns about the electric transition. To smooth this transition, Ferrari will use electronic sounds<\/strong> in the Elettrica that mimic the internal combustion engine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even though the Ferrari Elettrica<\/strong> is still in the announcement phase, the brand’s electric gamble is far from a simple claim. The company has established an independent engineering structure in this field by completely taking over the production of electric motors and batteries in-house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ferrari states that the electric architecture was developed based on three core principles: driving pleasure, durability, and longevity<\/strong>. They emphasize that a Ferrari must, above all, be enjoyable to drive, maintain its performance even under extreme conditions, and be long-lasting. The brand’s engineers have designed the battery and powertrain system according to these principles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company has also integrated a “virtual gear shifting<\/strong>” system to enhance driving fun. This system offers five separate power levels selected via paddles, similar to a manual car. Additionally, the intensity of regenerative braking<\/strong> can be adjusted via the steering wheel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are accustomed to the use of artificial engine sounds in electric vehicles, but Ferrari will not pursue this path entirely. Instead, it will use a special algorithm to amplify the natural vibrations of the electric motor<\/strong>. An accelerometer placed beneath the inverter detects the motor’s vibrations and transmits them through the vehicle’s acoustic system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For performance continuity<\/strong>, the Elettrica is equipped with Ferrari\u2019s proprietary cooling system and power electronics. The front motors can reach 30,000 rpm<\/strong>, and the rear motors up to 25,000 rpm<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For long-term durability, Ferrari has structured the battery pack to consist of 15 separate modules<\/strong>. This structure allows each module to be serviced or replaced over time. Although a “cell-to-body<\/strong>” architecture was not chosen, this design aims to keep the Elettrica on the road for decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ferrari stated that gasoline and hybrid models will remain at the core of its product range in the coming years, with only 20%<\/strong> of its product range being fully electric vehicles by 2030. By 2030, Ferrari aims for its model lineup to consist of 40% internal combustion engine (ICE) models<\/strong> and 40% hybrid models<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Will the Ferrari Elettrica Be Released?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Ferrari is planning the Elettrica’s launch as a three-phase process<\/strong>. The technology workshop in Maranello constitutes the first phase, while the second and third phases will be carried out in the first two quarters of 2026<\/strong>. However, these dates do not necessarily mean the model will be fully unveiled or go on sale. The company CEO indicated that even the model name is valid “for now,” suggesting the final name could change. The price of the Elettrica has also not yet been announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
