General Motors<\/strong> has unveiled the new generation of its affordable electric vehicle, the Chevrolet Bolt<\/strong>. With a new battery, much faster charging speed, and an accessible price, the new Bolt<\/strong> is coming in with an ambitious offering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

General Motors (GM<\/strong>) has introduced the next generation of its budget-friendly electric vehicle, the Chevrolet Bolt<\/strong>. The new Bolt comes with an improved battery and retains a design that is quite similar to the previous generation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chevy Bolt was first launched in 2016. As GM’s first truly all-electric car, the Bolt was well-regarded for its size, price, and performance, achieving successful sales figures. However, its production was halted at the end of 2023 due to battery-related recalls and its reliance on GM’s older EV architecture. The Bolt is now making a comeback with its new version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Does the 2026 Chevrolet Bolt Offer?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The exterior of the new Bolt closely resembles the previous Bolt EUV<\/strong> model. Notable changes include a black stripe connecting the headlights at the front and taillights that have been moved higher up in the rear. The new Bolt utilizes the same motor as the Equinox EV<\/strong>, which has 210 horsepower<\/strong>. This suggests a 0-100 km\/h (0-62 mph) acceleration time of around 6 seconds<\/strong>, though GM has not yet shared official figures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The biggest drawback of the previous model was its slow DC charging speed (50 kW<\/strong>). The new Bolt takes a major step forward in this regard, supporting fast charging up to 150 kW<\/strong>, allowing it to charge from 10% to 80% in just 26 minutes<\/strong>. It also features Plug and Charge<\/strong> capability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new 65 kWh battery<\/strong> uses LFP (lithium iron phosphate)<\/strong> cells manufactured by CATL<\/strong> and GM\u2019s Ultium platform<\/strong>. The vehicle offers a range of 410 km<\/strong> (approximately 255 miles) with this battery. It also supports bidirectional energy transfer<\/strong>. The car can supply 9.6 kW<\/strong> of electricity to homes via GM Energy\u2019s \u201cVehicle-to-Home (V2H)\u201d<\/strong> systems. However, the vehicle does not include 120V outlets, only USB-C<\/strong> outputs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new Bolt comes with a NACS charging port<\/strong>, meaning it can directly use Tesla Supercharger<\/strong> stations. An adapter will be available for CCS stations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new Bolt no longer features Apple CarPlay<\/strong>. Instead, it uses GM’s proprietary infotainment system<\/strong>. The company claims this system offers deeper integration with vehicle-specific features. The car also features the optional SuperCruise<\/strong> driving assistance system, which can manage automatic lane changes and navigate highway interchanges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The interior has also been revised, featuring a larger screen, ambient lighting<\/strong>, redesigned cup holders, extra front console space, and physical buttons for volume and climate control. Additionally, a heat pump<\/strong> provides more efficient heating during winter months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new Chevy Bolt is scheduled to launch in the early months of 2026<\/strong>. The RS version<\/strong> will be priced at around $32,000<\/strong>, the LT Comfort package<\/strong> at $29,990<\/strong>, and the base LT version<\/strong> at $28,995<\/strong>. These prices will make the new Bolt the most affordable electric vehicle in the United States<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
