Samsung<\/strong> has announced a new heart health feature coming to the Galaxy Watch<\/strong> line. The Left Ventricular Systolic Dysfunction (LVSD)<\/strong> detection tool has received approval in South Korea<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Samsung has developed new artificial intelligence<\/a><\/em> algorithms<\/strong> that will allow its smartwatches to detect symptoms of heart failure<\/strong>. The company collaborated with Medical AI<\/strong>, a leading AI-based ECG technology company in South Korea, for this new heart health feature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Left Ventricular Systolic Dysfunction detection tool<\/strong> relies on the existing electrocardiogram (ECG)<\/strong> function, which is already used to monitor a user’s blood pressure and heart rate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Samsung smartwatches will be able to detect an early sign of Left Ventricular Systolic Dysfunction (LVSD)<\/strong>. According to Samsung, this heart condition is behind approximately 50% of all heart failure cases<\/strong>. The company suggests that the early diagnosis<\/strong> of the disease can reduce the risk of death, though it does not support this claim with any data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The LVSD detection tool<\/strong> was developed in partnership with the Korean medical device company Medical AI<\/strong>. Its algorithm is based on data collected from over 120,000 patients<\/strong> in Korean hospitals and has been approved by the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS)<\/strong>. This makes the Samsung<\/a><\/em> Galaxy Watch<\/strong> the first watch<\/strong> to offer a certified LVSD detection tool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Samsung’s LVSD detection tool will initially be rolled out to Galaxy Watch 8<\/strong> and Watch Ultra<\/strong> owners in Korea<\/strong>. It is not yet clear if or when the feature will be approved for use in other markets, such as North America<\/strong> or Europe<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
