The transfer of a rare NFT<\/strong> from the Hypurr collection<\/strong> for a price nearing half a million dollars<\/strong> has created a significant stir in the crypto community<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Early adopters<\/strong> of Hyperliquid’s perpetual-focused Layer 1 blockchain<\/strong> received major rewards on Sunday after the Hyper Foundation<\/strong> finally airdropped the long-awaited Hypurr Non-Fungible Token (NFT) collection<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the time of writing, the floor price<\/strong> for Hypurr NFTs<\/a><\/em><\/strong> was approximately 1,458 Hyperliquid (HYPE)<\/strong>, or $68,700<\/strong>, according to OpenSea<\/strong> data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, breathtaking sales occurred far above this range. The Hypurr #21 NFT<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, which possesses the extremely rare “Knight Ghost Armor”<\/strong> and “Knight Helm Ghost”<\/strong> traits, was sold for 9,999 HYPE<\/strong> on Sunday, equivalent to $467,000<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Demand was so high before the launch that some NFTs<\/strong> were sold for up to $88,000<\/strong> earlier this month through OTC desks<\/strong>, according to DripTrade data<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Such transactions were made possible through DripTrade’s OTC system<\/strong>, which allows buyers and sellers to agree on a predetermined sale price before the launch. The seller was then obligated to complete the transaction within seven days of receiving the NFT<\/strong> or forfeit the collateral they put forward as part of the agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amidst a global cost of living crisis<\/strong>, the fact that a digital cat picture<\/strong> received for free was worth more than some people’s annual salary did not go unnoticed by the crypto community<\/strong>. X user MoonOverlord<\/strong> stated:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“CT is truly a special place in hell. The average person is struggling to make ends meet or buy groceries, and here people are sharing their $50,000 hyperliquid cat NFTs<\/strong> they got for free.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DidiTrading<\/strong> also commented: “I received a Hypurr NFT<\/strong> worth $50k<\/strong>. I’m not usually great at gauging the value of these things, so I’ll give the market some time to find a balance before deciding what to do.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Are Hypurr NFTs Poised to Take Over the Market?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Hypurr NFTs<\/strong> were distributed on HyperEVM<\/strong> on Sunday and depict cartoon cat avatars<\/strong> with various traits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NFTs<\/strong> were primarily given to the most active participants of the “Genesis” event<\/strong>, which took place around the HYPE token<\/strong> launch in November 2024<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are a total of 4,600 NFTs<\/strong>. 4,313<\/strong> were distributed to Genesis event participants<\/strong>, while the rest were shared among the Hyper Foundation<\/strong> and core project contributors. This was explained in a post on X<\/strong> on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hyper Foundation’s<\/strong> post stated: “The goal of the Hypurr NFT collection<\/strong> was to share a memento with those who were early believers and contributors<\/strong> to the growth of Hyperliquid<\/strong>. Each NFT<\/strong>, as depicted by Hypurr<\/strong>, reflects the different moods<\/strong>, hobbies<\/strong>, tastes<\/strong>, and quirks<\/strong> of the Hyperliquid community<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In terms of 24-hour volume<\/strong>, OpenSea<\/strong> data shows that 952,000 HYPE<\/strong>, valued at approximately $44.6 million<\/strong>, changed hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
