Somni<\/strong>, a UK-based company, has introduced a wireless earbud<\/strong> that doesn’t need to be charged. The exceptionally small earbuds were specifically designed for sleep. So, how do these interesting earbuds work?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UK-based Somni<\/strong> has developed a unique wireless earbud<\/strong> to provide a better sleep experience. The company describes their earbuds, called SomniBuds<\/strong>, as the world’s smallest sleep headphones<\/strong> that don’t require charging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How Do SomniBuds Work?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The SomniBuds<\/strong> operate through a thin and soft mat (SomniMat<\/strong>). This mat can be placed under a pillow, on the bed, or behind a headboard, up to a distance of approximately 60-90 cm. The mat connects to a device like a phone or tablet via Bluetooth<\/strong> and transmits sound to the earbuds using a magnetic field<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The earbuds contain no batteries or electronic circuits. According to the company, the earbuds house an extremely sensitive magnetic diaphragm<\/strong> enclosed in an acoustic chamber. This diaphragm is mechanically moved by the SomniMat’s voice coil field<\/strong>, similar to how a speaker cone is moved within a speaker. This system is based on a proprietary, patent-pending technology<\/strong> developed by the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because they have no batteries, the earbuds are exceptionally small, with a flat design that is only 3 mm thick<\/strong>. This ensures they don’t protrude from the ear, making them comfortable to wear while lying on your side. The ear tips are made of foam that provides a snug fit and passively blocks out external noise. The company states that this design can reduce outside noise by up to 37 dB<\/strong>, helping to mask disruptive sounds even at low volume levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the earbuds, the system includes two other components: the aforementioned cloth-like mat and a power adapter<\/strong> that also contains the Bluetooth receiver<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Somni notes that while their earbuds provide high-quality sound within the mat’s range, they deliver mono sound<\/strong> instead of stereo. Therefore, the product is not intended for listening to music or for use outdoors; it is designed specifically for sleep<\/strong>. A single earbud set is priced at $300<\/strong>, but is currently available for $231<\/strong> as part of a Kickstarter campaign<\/strong>. The DuoMat package<\/strong>, designed for two people to use simultaneously, is being sold for $251<\/strong> during the campaign. The company says deliveries are expected to begin in December<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
