NFT trading activity in virtual worlds saw a 27% increase<\/strong> in August, generating $6.5 million<\/strong> in volume from 13,927 sales<\/strong>. This marks the second consecutive month of steady metaverse<\/a><\/em><\/strong> activity after a prolonged slump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to DappRadar analyst Sara Gherghelas, users are “slowly returning to virtual worlds” like The Sandbox<\/strong>, Mocaverse<\/strong>, Otherside<\/strong>, and Decentraland<\/strong>. The Metaverse<\/strong> peaked in 2021-2022<\/strong> but has cooled significantly since.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

August’s performance, following July’s $6.7 million<\/strong> in sales and 10,900 transactions<\/strong>, represents a significant jump from June’s $3.7 million<\/strong>. January 2024<\/strong> remains the strongest month, with metaverse NFT sales reaching $7.7 million<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leading platforms are now focusing on long-term infrastructure development rather than speculative trading. The Sandbox<\/a><\/em><\/strong> held its largest land auction in July, while Mocaverse<\/strong> is preparing to launch its Moca Chain testnet<\/strong> this quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In August, Otherside<\/strong> released AI-powered world-building tools. Decentraland<\/a><\/em><\/strong> announced a major engine upgrade, and HYTOPIA<\/strong> replaced its TOPIA token<\/strong> with the new HYBUX<\/strong> and expanded its creator fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

VirtualWorlds continues to attract development investments, even though transaction volumes remain moderate compared to their peak. Companies like Infinite Reality<\/strong> acquired Napster<\/strong> in March, with plans for a music-focused metaverse experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gherghelas notes that while volumes are moderate, leading platforms are laying sustainable foundations through “long-term infrastructure, identity, and creative tools,” shifting toward lasting solutions instead of short-term speculation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
