The electric Porsche Cayenne<\/strong> will have a wired charging peak power of 400 kW<\/strong> and, for an extra fee, will also offer 11 kW wireless charging<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Porsche has announced that its electric Cayenne<\/strong> model will offer a wireless charging feature. The system, called the “Porsche Wireless Charger (PWC)”<\/strong>, has been introduced as the first manufacturer-supported inductive charging<\/strong> solution. The charging pad offers up to 11 kW of charging power<\/strong> and can operate in temperatures ranging from -40 to 50 degrees Celsius<\/strong>. It is unaffected by debris like leaves or snow and operates with an efficiency of approximately 90%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the German brand, the system is quite practical to use. As the vehicle approaches the pad, guide lines are projected onto the digital display along with a front camera view. The driver uses these lines to position the vehicle correctly. Then, the Cayenne’s air suspension lowers the body by a few centimeters, and the magnetic field activates, beginning the energy transfer to the battery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The charging pad, which is 60 mm high<\/strong> and weighs 50 kg<\/strong>, operates completely independently and does not require a wall-mounted charging unit. The wireless charging system<\/strong> will initially be offered as an option in Europe. Models equipped with this system will come with the necessary wiring for a 15 kg water-cooled receiver unit<\/strong> installed behind the front protective covering. The price for this integrated system has been announced as \u00a32,000<\/strong> in the UK. An additional \u00a33,000<\/strong> is required for the charging pad itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Safety features are also integrated into the system. For example, if a neighbor’s cat approaches the heat emitted by the platform, the foreign object detection system<\/strong> automatically shuts off the magnetic field. When the animal moves away, the charging process resumes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The PWC<\/strong> is also equipped with LTE<\/strong> and wireless LAN modules<\/strong>. Through the “My Porsche”<\/strong> app, charging can be started and stopped, scheduled for low-tariff hours, and features like pre-heating can be used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wireless charging is, of course, not the only option for charging the new Cayenne. The model will be launched with approximately 400 kW of wired charging power<\/strong> and a power output of around 1,000 horsepower<\/strong> in its top-tier Turbo<\/strong> version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
