The reactor&#8217;s design is optimized to operate at <strong>low pressure (6 bar)<\/strong> and <strong>low temperature (100 \u00b0C)<\/strong>. <strong>Calogena<\/strong> states that the <strong>CAL30<\/strong> aims to provide <strong>clean energy<\/strong> to urban heating networks and is intended to be commissioned as soon as possible, around <strong>2030<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Calogena&#8217;s reactor<\/strong> uses classical <strong>nuclear fuel<\/strong> but in a more compact form. The company emphasizes that the <strong>CAL30<\/strong> requires only <strong>3,000 m\u00b2<\/strong> of land and less than <strong>1,000 m\u00b2<\/strong> for buildings. The reactor does not need extensive water or electricity infrastructure, and <strong>refueling<\/strong> can be carried out by a truck only once every two years. The design, specifically optimized for <strong>urban heating networks<\/strong>, is suitable for providing energy based on demand. The reactor&#8217;s <strong>core volume is less than 1 cubic meter<\/strong>. This allows the system and components to be assembled in a factory environment and then transported to the installation site. Consequently, installation is radically expedited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>CAL30<\/strong> is one of four <strong>SMR designs<\/strong> being evaluated in France. While the <strong>Blue Capsule<\/strong> and <strong>Naarea<\/strong> designs are still in the preparatory phase, the <strong>CAL30<\/strong> has already advanced to the pre-licensing stage.
