Elon Musk has announced that different model weights for Grok 2.5<\/strong> are now available as open source<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Musk’s AI company, xAI<\/strong>, has made the model weights for Grok 2.5, one of last year’s most powerful models, accessible on the open-source platform Hugging Face<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an official post on his X<\/strong> account, Elon Musk<\/a><\/em><\/strong> stated, “Grok 2.5, our best model from last year, is now open source.” He also announced that Grok<\/a><\/em> 3<\/strong> would become open source in about six months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the release, controversy continues. AI engineer Tim Kellogg<\/strong> criticized Grok’s license, saying it “contains some private, anti-competitive conditions.” This has raised questions about how freely Grok can actually be used under its open-source label.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year, Grok has been the subject of controversy, particularly for its answers on racist conspiracy theories<\/strong> on X. Although Elon Musk has introduced the latest version, Grok 4<\/strong>, as an “AI in pursuit of maximum truth,” it is still rumored that the model consults Elon Musk’s social media posts before responding to controversial topics.
