However, these techniques cannot be applied to every patient as they require the removal of tissue from the cornea<\/strong>. Scientists are now working on a new method that aims to correct vision defects with a different and less invasive approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the most preferred methods for those who want to get rid of glasses is LASIK eye surgery<\/strong>. But this operation is not suitable for everyone because tissue is removed from the cornea. Now, researchers are trying something brand new: a method with no laser<\/strong> and no incision<\/strong> that can correct vision defects in just one minute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This new method, announced at the American Chemical Society meeting, is called \u201cElectromechanical Remodeling<\/strong>\u201d or EMR<\/strong>. The logic is actually quite simple: a low-voltage electric current<\/strong> is applied to the eye, and the cornea is reshaped with a special platinum-coated lens<\/strong>. During this process, the cornea temporarily softens, takes the shape of the mold, and then hardens again, retaining its new form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Initial trials were conducted on rabbit eyes, and successful results were obtained in these tests simulating myopia. This is a significant advantage, especially for people with thin corneas<\/strong>. Moreover, EMR is not limited to correcting vision impairments; it is also seen as a promising option for the treatment of corneal clouding<\/strong> caused by chemical substances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For now, this method has only been tested in a laboratory setting. There is still a long way to go before it can be applied to humans. First, initial experiments will be conducted, followed by FDA approval<\/strong> and clinical trials. Furthermore, the financing for the research is still uncertain. Nevertheless, experts believe that this method could become a viable treatment option within the next 10 years<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
