At SIGGRAPH 2025<\/strong>, Meta introduced two new VR prototype headsets, “Tiramisu”<\/strong> and “Boba 3”<\/strong>. Developed by the company’s Reality Labs Research team, these models bring innovations in various areas, from resolution to field of view. One prioritizes visual quality, while the other aims to expand the field of view.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meta describes the Tiramisu<\/strong> prototype as “the most realistic VR experience<\/strong> we have ever seen.” The device features custom micro-OLED panels<\/strong> that offer 3.6 times higher resolution and pixel density<\/strong> compared to the Meta Quest 3. It also achieves a three times higher contrast ratio<\/strong> and a peak brightness of 1,400 nits<\/strong>. To run these high-brightness and high-resolution scenes, the headset uses NVIDIA<\/a><\/em> DLSS technology<\/strong> for scenes based on Unreal Engine 5. However, the device is quite bulky and its horizontal field of view is currently limited to just 30 degrees<\/strong>, making the experience feel like you’re inside a virtual box. Despite this, the Meta team emphasizes that Tiramisu offers a level of realism previously unseen in VR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The other VR headset introduced at the event, Boba 3<\/strong>, aims to push the field of view<\/strong> closer to the limits of the human eye. With a horizontal field of view of 180 degrees<\/strong> and a vertical field of view of 120 degrees<\/strong>, Boba 3 offers a more immersive experience. For comparison, the Quest 3 offers a field of view of 110×96 degrees. The device operates at a resolution of 4K x 4K per eye<\/strong> and utilizes AI-powered rendering techniques like DLSS with a custom GPU, the details of which have not yet been shared. Due to its high hardware requirements, this technology is expected to be positioned in the premium segment<\/strong>. While Meta plans to release Boba 3 “as soon as possible,”<\/strong> it is expected to have a price point similar to high-end devices like the Apple Vision Pro<\/a><\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
