A dystopian period fueled by artificial intelligence<\/strong>, expected to begin in 2027<\/strong> and last for around 15 years<\/strong>, is on the horizon. Former Google<\/a><\/em><\/strong> executive Mo Gawdat has highlighted the profound impacts of AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to former Google X executive Mo Gawdat<\/strong>, the world will soon enter a dark era caused by artificial intelligence. Speaking on the “Diary of a CEO” podcast, Gawdat stated that AI will severely disrupt fundamental human values like freedom, human relationships, responsibility, reality, and power<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gawdat believes the beginning of this dystopian process is not far off; signs of these destructive effects have been appearing since the end of last year, and the situation is predicted to worsen over the next 12 to 15 years<\/strong> after 2027. What changed Gawdat’s previously optimistic outlook was the unexpected increase in the speed of AI development<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, Gawdat does not see AI itself as the direct cause of this dark future. He believes that AI acts as a magnifying glass<\/strong> for existing societal problems and human “stupidity.” He states, “There is absolutely nothing wrong with artificial intelligence. There are many things wrong with humanity’s values in the age of machines.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Artificial intelligence<\/a><\/em><\/strong> was originally designed to make life easier by automating daily tasks, with the goal of making millions of people less fatigued and more productive. However, in a world dominated by capitalism<\/strong>, this utopia is rapidly deteriorating. Companies are using AI to reduce headcount<\/strong>, limit hiring, or place a greater burden on existing workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Historically, all technological advancements were intended to enhance human skills and value. But most developments that shape the modern world have emerged under the umbrella of capitalism, the most dominant value. As a result, technology is shaped by the logic of capitalism. A similar pattern was seen with other technologies: social media, which was supposed to bring us closer, has instead made us lonelier, and cell phones, which were meant to free up our time, have made us busier. The simple and superficial conclusion that capitalism is useless should not be drawn from this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Gawdat, AI will also uncontrollably increase the harm that people can do. The recent rise of AI-generated fake sexual videos<\/strong>, autonomous weapons, and the use of generative AI<\/strong> in the military confirm these concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For example, Elon Musk<\/a><\/em><\/strong>‘s chatbot Grok<\/a><\/em>‘s<\/strong> new image and video generation feature is currently being used primarily to visualize men’s sexual fantasies. Additionally, AI-powered scams have significantly increased. On a societal level, AI is drastically improving mass surveillance methods. Gawdat points to a huge concentration of power<\/strong>, with China’s mass surveillance infrastructure being the most well-known example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite this dark picture, AI continues to open the door to positive changes. Its contributions to scientific discovery in areas like space, education, medicine, and pharmaceutical research<\/strong> are becoming increasingly visible. Mo Gawdat believes that through such advancements, it is possible for AI to be used to create a utopia in the future. However, before that can happen, humanity must first confront its own weaknesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
