Initial data released by BMW CEO Oliver Zipse reveals that the new iX3<\/strong>, equipped with the Gen6 powertrain<\/strong>, will be a much more efficient vehicle than its predecessor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the keys to achieving long range in electric vehicles is energy efficiency<\/strong>. For a long time, the Tesla<\/a><\/em> Model Y<\/strong> was considered the class leader in this area. However, BMW’s upcoming next-generation iX3<\/strong> model is poised to change the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to BMW CEO Oliver Zipse’s statement, the new iX3, one of the first models developed on the Neue Klasse platform<\/strong>, consumes only 15 kWh per 100 kilometers<\/strong>. This is a remarkably impressive level of efficiency for a dual-motor SUV weighing approximately 2,285 kg<\/strong> and equipped with a 108 kWh battery<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The efficiency increase offered by the new model is based on BMW’s new platform and technology, which were developed from scratch. The new generation 4695 cylindrical cells<\/strong> offer 20 percent more energy density<\/strong> than the previous model. In addition, a new inverter with silicon carbide chips<\/strong> and a highly efficient EESM (externally excited synchronous motor)<\/strong> also play a significant role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When all these components are brought together, the Gen6 powertrain<\/strong> reportedly achieves a 40 percent reduction in energy loss<\/strong>, a 10 percent reduction in weight<\/strong>, and a 20 percent reduction in costs<\/strong> compared to the previous generation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a reflection of its high efficiency, the BMW iX3 also boasts an impressive range. The electric SUV is expected to offer a range of up to 800 kilometers<\/strong> on a full charge according to the WLTP cycle<\/strong>. Its 800V architecture<\/strong> will also enable fast charging up to 400 kW<\/strong>, allowing for a range of around 350 km<\/strong> from a 10-minute charge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new BMW iX3 will be officially unveiled at the Munich Motor Show<\/strong> next month. Mercedes’ next-generation electric GLC<\/strong> model will also be revealed at the same show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
