The electric Mercedes<\/a><\/em> GLC<\/strong>, one of Mercedes’ biggest surprises this year alongside the new CLA, will play a pivotal role<\/strong> in the brand’s electric transformation with both its design and technical specifications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mercedes-Benz will showcase the new electric GLC model<\/strong>, which it sees as one of the strongest steps in its electric mobility vision, at this year’s IAA Mobility exhibition in Munich<\/strong>. The brand describes the electric GLC as “the highlight of this year’s show.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although Mercedes introduced the new electric CLA model<\/strong> and its subsequent CLA Shooting Brake version<\/strong> this year, the electric GLC is a continuation of this strategic offensive. The CLA spearheaded significant structural changes in Mercedes’ electric transformation, such as a return to traditional model naming conventions specific to internal combustion engines, the adoption of an 800-volt architecture<\/strong>, and a new platform strategy allowing the use of the same technological components across different models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The electric GLC, however, is at the very heart of this transformation<\/strong>. Mercedes refers to the new GLC as “the new face of the brand,” stating it is “purpose-driven, refined, and unmistakably a GLC. It continues the legacy of the brand’s best-selling model in electric form, offering an iconic, versatile, intuitive, and fluid driving experience.” While Mercedes has not yet revealed all the technical details for the electric GLC, information from prototype tests conducted last winter points to features such as a 94.5 kWh usable battery capacity<\/strong>, a 700-kilometer WLTP range<\/strong>, 320 kW DC fast charging<\/strong>, and a 320 kW dual-motor all-wheel-drive system<\/strong>. For a more accessible version, it’s possible that an entry-level battery option with LFP chemistry<\/strong> will be offered, similar to the CLA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mercedes’ event in Munich won’t be limited to just the GLC. The brand will also for the first time exhibit the camouflaged prototype of the next-generation all-electric VLE<\/strong>, which is planned to hit the roads in 2026. The first hints about the VLE were given with the Vision V concept<\/strong> introduced at the Shanghai Auto Show in China this April. Since then, camouflaged test vehicles based on the current van generation have also started to be seen on the roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
